Despite a huge investment in obesity research, an efficient drug that elicits no significant side effects remains elusive. ObeTherapy believes this to be a consequence of traditional approaches to the identification of therapeutic targets for the treatment of obesity. By focusing on the obese phenotype, past research has enveiled a large number of therapeutic targets, many of which are redundant and non specific. Drugs developed against these targets tend to produce numerous side effects.

To maximize the chance of producing efficient drugs, ObeTherapy focuses its attention on the genetics of the lean and hypolipidemic phenotype. This innovative strategy allows us to rapidly discover lead compounds for this important market.

Our approach evolves from the observation that a particular monogenic condition results in a deficiency of fat absorption. Thus, the enzyme implicated in this malfunction is critical and it is not compensated by other mechanisms; therefore, it is an ideal target for the treatment of obesity

This innovative strategy has allowed us to discover other non redundant and tissue specific targets. The drugs developed against these are very likely to be efficient and essentially free from side effects.
