The treatment of obesity and of its associated morbidities places a significant burden on the healthcare systems of western nations. Thus, costs associated with obesity in France are estimated between 2.1 to 4.6 billion euros. This picture is incredibly more dramatic in the US, where the total cost of obesity has reached more than 120 billion dollars.
