Two targets have been identified at this stage, both enzymes : -Protease : permitting absorption of proteins. When mutated, this gene creates congenital deficiency, that results in lean phenotype, as proteins are not absorbed. -ACDI : permitting the absorption of lipids. When mutated, this gene results in chylomicron deficiency as suggested by hypobetalipoproteinemia. Preliminary results shows that there is a strong inhibition of post-prandial absorption of fatty acids. The protein inhibition absorption target will enter in preclinical phases of development in the first quarter of 2008 and fatty acids inhibition absorption target by the end 2008.
